Alabama House Bill 424

Alabama House Bill 424 (HB424)

 

HB424 is a non-resident tuition waiver given to veterans who enroll within 5 years of discharge from Active Duty Service, Retirement, or Honorable Discharge of continuous service of 2 years or more or have a service connected disability rating from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

 

To determine eligibility for HB424, all required documents are to be turned into the Veterans Resource Center (VRC) via veterans@auburn.edu prior for approval. Veterans must fall within one of the Categories below:

 

Category 1: Veteran

  1. Service Member’s DD-214 (Member 4 copy)
  2. Proof of Domicile in AL (provide 1 of the following:)
    – Utility Bill
    – Lease Agreement (must be under student’s name) OR
    – Notarized Letter if living with family member OR
    – Dorm Room Assignment if living on campus OR
    – AL Driver’s License

Category 2: Veteran with Service-Connected Disability Rating

  1. Service Member’s DD-214 (Member 4 copy)
  2. Disability Rating Paperwork
    – Veteran assigned a service-connected disability by the Department of Veterans  Affairs (DVA)
  3. Proof of Domicile in AL (provide 1 of the following:)
    – Utility Bill
    – Lease Agreement (must be under student’s name) OR
    – Notarized Letter if living with family member OR
    – Dorm Room Assignment if living on campus OR
    – AL Driver’s License

Category 3: Reservist

  1. Memorandum from Commanding Officer
    – Veteran currently serving in reserve component of Armed Forces of U.S.
  2. Proof of Domicile in AL (provide 1 of the following)
    – Utility Bill
    – Lease Agreement (must be under student’s name) OR
    – Notarized Letter if living with family member OR
    – Dorm Room Assignment if living on campus OR
    -AL Driver’s License


*Veterans who do not qualify for HB 424 can refer to Choice Act Guidelines if served less than 2 years*
