Chapter 35: Dependents Education Assistance (DEA)

Benefit Overview

This program provides benefits for dependents of veterans who are 100% P&T or are deceased due to service connected to disabilities.

Benefit Coverage:

  • Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) of BAH based on the number of credit hours enrolled per semester

The VA pay you up to the rate listed here based on how many courses you’re taking:

  • Full-time enrollment: $1,488 for each full month
  • 3/4-time enrollment: $1,176 for each full month
  • 1/2-time enrollment: $862 for each full month
  • Less than 1/2-time and more than 1/4-time enrollment: $862 for each full month (or the cost of your tuition and fees, whichever is less)
  • 1/4-time enrollment or less: $372 for each full month (or the cost of your tuition and fees, whichever is less)

*Students using for Chapter 35 benefits will be required to pay all expenses on the e-bill by the bill due date. Chapter 35 does not provide any tuition coverage.

Taking ROTC classes? Fill out this VA form and declare ”Goal of Professional Officer” in section 4B in order to receive Federal VA Education benefits for taking these classes. Sign the back page and turn the completed form into the VRC.
