CHAPTER 30: MONTGOMERY GI BILL® (MGIB-AD)

Benefit Overview

Typically, the student who first entered active duty after June 30, 1985, are generally eligible. However, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) determines a person’s eligibility for VA Education Benefits based on the military records they have on file for a service member, veteran, or a transferee.

The monthly benefit paid to you is based on the type of training you take, length of your service, your category, any college fund eligibility, and if you contributed to the $600 buy-up program. You usually have 10 years to use your Montgomery benefits, but the time limit can be fewer or more years depending on the situation.

For more information about this benefit, please visit the VA website: https://www.va.gov/education/about-gi-bill-benefits/montgomery-active-duty/
